Domaine Gardiés, Côtes du Roussillon Villages Rouge, Les Milleres, Roussillon, France, 2022
Producer Profile
Domaine Gardiés stands as one of the defining estates of the Roussillon, rooted in the wind-swept hills around Espira-de-l’Agly and the schist terraces of Vingrau and Tautavel.
The Gardiés family has farmed these landscapes for generations, gradually shaping a domaine known for precision, depth, and an unbroken connection to its terrain. Their vineyards lie between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Corbières, where old bush vines cling to poor, stony soils that naturally limit yields and enhance concentration. The estate’s wines reflect this contrast of sun, altitude, and mineral tension, offering a modern expression of the region’s identity.
Viticulture
Situated in the Roussillon region, the Domaine Gardiés vineyards benefit from two distinct terroirs: clay-limestone soils in Vingrau and schist soils in Espira de l'Agly. The estate, spanning approximately 35 hectares, has been cultivated organically since 2004, with manual harvesting and a focus on biodiversity.
Winemaking
The blend comprises Grenache Noir, Syrah, Carignan, and Mourvèdre. After manual harvesting, the grapes undergo a 14-day maceration in concrete tanks with gentle pigeage. The wine is then aged for 12 months, with 50% in concrete vats and 50% in 600-litre French oak demi-muids.
Tasting Note
The Les Millères Rouge offers a deep garnet hue, accompanied by aromas of ripe red berries, garrigue herbs, and subtle spicy notes. On the palate, it is smooth and juicy, with fine, well-integrated tannins and a lingering finish.
Food matching
Grilled meats, small game, or a succulent rack of lamb Provençal. Its versatility also complements hearty dishes like paella or stuffed tomatoes.
