Domaine Gardiés, Côtes Catalanes Rouge, On s'en Fish, Roussillon, France, 2023
Producer Profile
Domaine Gardiés stands as one of the defining estates of the Roussillon, rooted in the wind-swept hills around Espira-de-l’Agly and the schist terraces of Vingrau and Tautavel.
The Gardiés family has farmed these landscapes for generations, gradually shaping a domaine known for precision, depth, and an unbroken connection to its terrain. Their vineyards lie between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Corbières, where old bush vines cling to poor, stony soils that naturally limit yields and enhance concentration. The estate’s wines reflect this contrast of sun, altitude, and mineral tension, offering a modern expression of the region’s identity.
Viticulture
Vines are grown on 30ha parcels of schistous in Espira‑de‑l’Agly and clay‑limestone soils in Vingrau. The vineyard focuses on biodiversity and low‑intervention viticulture, with manual harvests and respect for the land.
Winemaking
Fermentation is done via carbonic maceration, either in concrete vats or sealed tanks, for vibrant, aromatic purity. It matures on the lees for around 8 months, allowing gentle tannin round‑off while preserving freshness.
Tasting Note
Bursting with aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries and red currants, intertwined with delicate floral notes and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is juicy and refreshing, offering ripe red cherry and cranberry flavours, a silky‑smooth texture, bright acidity, and a clean, lingering finish with a subtle mineral edge .
Food matching
Grilled or lightly cooked tuna (tataki), tagliatelle with spicy salami, barbecue meats or ratatouille.
