Domaine Clarence Dillon, Clarendelle Rouge, AOC Bordeaux, France

Producer Profile

The Clarendelle wines are part of the eminent Domaine Clarence Dillon family including Chateau Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion & Quintus.

First launched in 2005, Clarendelle was the passion project of Prince Robert de Luxembourg who was inspired by the legacy of Clarence Dillon, owner of Château Haut-Brion. The wines benefit from the knowledge and experience of the winemaking team at First Growth Chateau Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut Brion and Quintus and always contain a small proportion of wine from these grands vins. Clarendelle was Bordeaux’s first super-premium brand and the style is an expression of Bordeaux terroir that delivers subtle elegance and age-worthy wines. Philosophy: Balance, Elegance and Complexity.

Viticulture

The style of the Clarendelle wines is dictated by an expression of the Bordeaux terroir which aim to produce subtle elegance in age-worthy wines.

Winemaking

Born into a culture deeply rooted in a century of prestigious estate wine blending, Clarendelle benefits from the expertise and know how of a First Growth winemaking team and ageing in their state of the art eco friendly cellars. The wines are cellared and only released to the market when they are deemed fully ready to be enjoyed by the consumer.

Tasting Note

Radiating a brilliant, deep crimson hue, this wine captivates from the very first glance. The nose is rich with intense black fruit aromas, promising a truly indulgent experience. On the palate, powerful yet refined flavours of black cherry and blackcurrant unfold, complemented by delicate notes of liquorice and warming spice. Silky, elegant tannins – the result of gentle extraction – provide perfect balance and a luxuriously smooth mouthfeel, making this an effortlessly enjoyable and supremely elegant wine.

Awards

Halliday Wine Companion 93 Points
There’s a certain restraint and almost gentleness with cabernet from this vintage and producer. Nothing forced, just lovely fruit – all cassis and mulberries, lots of fresh herbs, a dusting of baking spices with savouriness from Dutch licorice and tapenade. Hovers around mid- to fuller-bodied, the palate covered in plentiful tannins, just a hint of green peppercorns and bright acidity. Youthful, of course, so serve with food or give this more time to develop complexity. 93 Points, JH, 2025.
